Question of the Week

Sponsoring your parents for a parent visa in Australia may be easier than you think

Category: Visa for Australia

Question asked

I am a permanent resident in Australia and i am looking to sponsor my parents from Vietnam to live in Australia through Contributory Parent Visa subclass. I also have one sibling, who is 18 years old and studying Accounting degree in Australia. Would i be able to sponsor my younger brother along with my parents through this visa subclass? Note that i have had mixed answers from a few solicitors in regarding to this. Some said yes, some said no. I heard about Remaining Relative Visa subclass, which has the waiting list of 50 years. Hence, i am not too much into this visa, but it sure can be the last option.

Answer provided by Migration Agent

Your parents can apply for a Contributory Parent visa if half of their children are Australian permanent residents or Australian Citizens. They can include in their application dependent children. In order to include your brother in the application, he has to demonstrate that he financially depends on his parents.

------ Clarification Request ------------

In regarding to the answer to my question, my younger brother can definitely be sponsored as a dependent of my parents ? What do we need to do to prove he is financial dependant considering that he is having a part-time job now in Australia. And, is there a good chance he will obtain the PR as well as my parents given that we will pay the contributory

----- Answer from Migration Agent -----
To be considered financially dependent, your brother has to demonstrate that their parents cover his main needs such as for example food, accommodation, tuition fees, clothes. As migration agents under the Code of Conduct, we cannot assure your success in the visa application as the case officer will have the final decision. However; I can assure that I will assist you in lodging a valid application.
