Question asked

What is a closely related occupation?

I have heard about some skilled visas and the option to claim skilled employment.

Thanks.

Hello S.

A closely related occupation is one that is the same group of occupations according to ANZSCO. So for example a chef in ANZSCO is group number 3513 - ANZSCO will give you the skill level required and the tasks required for that particular role. It will also give you the possible other occupations that are related to that. A chef who works in a Food Truck would find it hard to be classified as a chef, but could be classified as a cook.

Another example is Systems Analyst -UNIT GROUP 2611 ICT BUSINESS AND SYSTEMS ANALYSTS - if you look in group 2611 - you will see other occupations that are closely related. In particular you need to see the sorts of tasks that are performed and in the setting they are performed in.

In my case, I've been working as a nurse for 4 years. M

My very first position was Care service employee or AIN in a nursing home and then an Enrolled nurse (aged care ward) for 2 years and working as RN aged care since March 2021 at NSW Health.

In this case your Skill Level as an RN was only in March 2021, or since you actually qualified. But if you are looking at AIN then you would possibly be given 4 years depending on how many hours etc.

Maybe as an Enrolled nurse you would get two years, again depending on the hours you worked.

You will need to look at the level you would like to be assessed on.

You were not an RN four years ago so you cannot be credited that work experience.

I hope this has helped.
