Question of the Week

It is really true: Permanent Residence status never expires!

Category: Visa for Australia

Question asked

I wanted to apply for a Subclass 155 as I used to be a permanent resident, but it was in the 1980's, so too long to qualify.

Then, I thought of Subclass 189 visa (my occupation is on the skilled list - Library technician) but I am older than 45.

My son and some of my family live in Adelaide. What can I do to be able to return and work there?

Hi D.,

I believe you can apply for RRV visa. You will have to show some ties in Australia and an intent to live here for longer time.

I would like to know for how many times have you visited Australia since your last PR.

Please contact if you need assistance with your RRV application.

----- Request for Clarification -------

I only have been there once in July 2001 for a couple of weeks visit but have kept no records of it.

When I called Immigration affairs, the agent briefly told me I could apply for it and encouraged me. But when I see the requirements, I don't fulfill them. I have not stayed the 2 mandatory years in a period of 5 years recently. I lived in Adelaide from April 1984-Dec 1989 approx. What can I do? I'm super fit but am 61 years old and my son just had a child. I want to join them, but I also want to work a long time still in my profession: library technician or Library assistant. I have a Diploma and 5 years’ experience. I am going to Adelaide from Dec.1 2022 to Dec 30 2022. Maybe I could ask a library if they want to employ me, but since I'm 61, the skilled visas don't apply.

Please tell me, then, how can I go about applying for RRV and what I should include in my application if I don't have all the requirements. Thank you.

---- Clarification from Migration Agent ------

You can still apply for a RRV visa with strong submission that you want to stay here for longer time. They might issue only for 3 months to 12 months, you can work & then we can ask for 5 years visa once you settle down here.
