Question of the Week

I applied for a Contributory Parent Visa. With the long waiting times, can my parents come to Australia on a tourist visa?

Category: Visa for Australia

Question asked

My parents applied for a subclass 173 Contributory Parent Visa in August 2020, outside Australia.

Their application is still being assessed.

Can they come to Australia meantime to visit their daughter / granddaughter on a Tourist Visa?

I have called the Department and they advised to contact a migration agent for an advice as there is no information on the Immi site and they couldn’t provide an advice.

Answer provided by Migration Agent

Dear D.,

Your parents have applied for a parent contributory visa in August 2020. As per the department information, the applications lodged in the year 2016 are being processed at this stage.

They can apply for a tourist visa subclass 600 and visit Australia (once visa is granted).
